Common Queries About Coaching

You may have read a book or two, or listened to podcasts on personal development. You may have attended some conferences/classes, therapy, or even had coaching before.

The above isn't essential but it can serve as an indicator. Coaching depends on your 'coachability'. Being open and willing to engage in the experience

I do supply a questionnaire at the beginning of the coaching agreement to get you thinking a bit and to ensure we get the best out the time working together.

Here are one or two you can ask yourself

  • What would I like my life to look after at the end of our agreement/ or in 3 years time? Answer as if you are already there looking back at where you are now.
  • What opportunities are there?
  • What dangers lie in my way? These can be internal, and external
  • What are my unique strengths? Clue: The things that come quite naturally to you

There is a slight overlap but coaching is aimed more at creating, whereas therapy is more for recovery.

Therapy tries to ensure you are fit enough to climb the mountain. Coaching tries to get you to the summit.

If you have something specific that has happened in your life that has caused trauma then therapy is focused on softening the emotional edge around it.

If this isn't the case for you then I would pick a coach every time.

Ultimately when you are working with anyone it is the trust and the relationship itself that is the most important factor to consider

I do understand that everyone's financial situation is different but I aim to add more value than the fees that I charge.

If you are paying personally and aren't able to get your work to contribute then let's explore to see what is possible

If working together via video call you are welcome to record our conversation so you may revisit it repeatedly to get more value out of it.

You need to see it as an investment rather than a cost. Humans value stuff more and are usually more committed if they have paid a premium for it.

What is the cost for you in not taking action?

Some people see the value in investing in themselves through coaching, and others don't. That's fine, and is an individual choice.

The most driven, ambitious and intelligent individuals are the ones that benefit most out of coaching as they are trying to create more things in the world, hence they come up against their edges a little more - so there is more content and more mindset blocks to coach on. That's why some of the world's best leaders and performers have an array of coaches around them in a variety of areas to leave no stone unturned on their quest for greatness as a performer or leader.

Most people around you are not spending their every moment thinking about what you're up to anyway and the some that do may notice a positive change in you and may enquire what's different.

If you're a leader your team may feel more understood and start performing better.

For many people they don't want these kind of conversations with family and friends who may be too emotionally involved and see them in a particular way. You may decide that you want to keep the dynamics of those relationships as they are, as not to disturb it.

I for instance would never coach my kids or my wife as I'm too close to the action and can't be as impartial as another coach would be able to be

My impartiality to you means that I'm not too close to the action and can look at things objectively and challenge you from a non-emotionally charged, but equally compassionate space. Also I'm highly skilled in what I do and love having these kind of conversations.

By investing in the right coach you might increase the probability of sustained success for you and be clearer in your decision-making and performance.

I'll send you a 'Get The Most out of Coaching Checklist' beforehand to ensure that the sessions are as effective as they can be

There are no guarantees for success though. The only guarantee I can make is that I will provide the best service that I can

All I would ask for you is that you are honest in ensuring that you're fully committed, intentional and take full ownership during our coaching agreement.

The people who have had the best experiences and results display all these traits.

Let's arrange a complimentary call for you to have a taste and to see if it is something that you want more of at the end of it.

Even though you won't be paying for this initial call I'm aware that your time is valuable and will do my best to ensure that it isn't a waste of your precious time.

Let's explore what was at the root of that and see how you're experience could be different while working with me, and to make the experience of working with me worthwhile for you.

Maybe that is something we could work on? We could look at your calendar and see if you're utilizing your time in the best way possible for you.

If you do sincerely value the benefits coaching you will make time in your schedule for it and treat that time as precious for you as opposed to just another thing to get through.

I can offer sessions outside the Monday-Friday 9-5 schedule if necessary.

I may not be. You may for some reason not click with me on our initial call. The most important things to ask yourself is

  • Do I trust him?
  • Do I think I'd work well with him?

What I will say is I walk my talk and I'm entirely committed to this. I have some certificates and qualifications but I value my life experiences as the greatest teaching. I love working with driven and curious people who want to be the best they can be, and want to lift others around them too.

Although I know my stuff I consider myself to be a creator and continuous learner first, and a scholar second.

I don't need to have experience of your industry to make a difference. I don't know in detail what many of the clients I work with do and don't need to. This can be advantageous as I may questions things that appear to obvious and unquestioned.

I'm not a consultant advising you what do. Though, I can make suggestions if asked to share.

No, I see coaching as working together in the trenches not me stood above it looking down at you telling you what do.

The only reason to rummage around in the past would be if we felt it would be beneficial to do so as something was holding you back from moving forward

Most of the people I'm fortunate to work alongside are capable of achieving things I would never come be able. I don't need to.

The same as most sports coaches couldn't dream of doing what some of their athletes are able to

We do what works in the best way possible for you, and more importantly what is useful.

I receive my own coaching too as I value it so much. I don't do anything to you. We work together.

No, the drive is an inherent part of you. We can just look at the direction of that drive, refine it and make it laser focused.
